According to recent research, Americans spend $99 billion annually on their pets (not including litter or other pet care and pet products online).
As they transition from family members to fur babies, online shoppers are ready to spoil their beloved pets even more than ever.
With this in mind, researchers took a look at the most popular pet products in the pet market, whether for pampering or personal protection. Note that some of these items may surprise you!
1. Dog and Cat Apparel
First up is doggy apparel. An astonishing 473% more people are buying dog clothes online today than what was being bought during the same period last year. Popular brands of pet clothes include Dogo, Dapper Dog Designs, Pawz Pet Products, and Doggie Design.
Also, cats don’t like to be outdone! While only 7% of all shoppers are buying pet clothing for their felines at this time, that’s still in the double digits. Brands in high demand among cat-loving online shoppers include Pawz, Pineapple Pet Boutique, and Pawsome Couture.
2. Jewelry for Pets
And what about pets that like to spoil themselves? A whopping 529% more online shoppers are buying jewelry for their animals than this time last year. Brands popular among gift-buying pet owners include MELYS Le Chien and Collars N Cages. So much for scratching behind the ears!
3. Self-Groomers
Self-groomers such as FURminator deShedding Tool will not leave your pets looking sharp. It’s no surprise that 400% more people are purchasing self-groomers for their pets than last year. Brands they love include FURminator deShedding Tool, Pet Glo, FurBuster, and White Label Pet Balm.
4. Toys
Can’t keep your dog off the couch? Try some doggie toys instead! A whopping 652% more shoppers are buying pet toys online today than they did this time last year. The brands they most want to see under the tree or in their stockings include Kyjen, Petlou, and Zippy Paws.
5. Patio Items
Your pet deserves a place on the patio too! More than 50% more shoppers are seeking out patio items for pets, such as pet steps and pet ramps than they were last year. They love brands such as Solvit, Pet Gear, and Midwest Homes.
6. Car Seat Accessories
When it comes to making traveling smoother for animals, over half of the online shoppers are buying car seat accessories this holiday season. Brands that are huge hits include Lusso, Detour, and Kurgo.
There are multiple benefits to having your dog sit in its very own car seat. With so many styles and brands, you will surely find the right one for them.
The biggest benefit to car seat accessories is safety. Having your dogs in a car seat will keep them safe in the event of an accident. Another benefit is they are more comfortable than riding on your lap or laying down in the back seat.
7. Collars
Not all dog collars look cute on your pup! Remarkably, 232% more people are purchasing stylish dog collars for their pups to accessorize with outfits or to hold identification tags and licenses. Brands that are big hits include Tuffie, BowhausNYC, and Dog Rocks.
8. Pet IDs
As sad as it is, losing a pet can happen at any time. Nearly 10 million pets are lost every year in the United States alone. A pet ID is one of the simplest things you can do to keep track of your buddy when he or she runs off.
It is also useful for identifying your pet in case he or she appears at a shelter. Getting an ID for your furry buddy is easy. Simply pick out a collar, and attach a tag to it that has the following information:
- Your name, address, and phone number(s)
- Your pet’s name
- A description of your pet
- Your vet clinic name and phone number
These come in handy in case your pet is found without an ID tag.
Finally, you may consider getting a microchipping done. Microchips are tiny chips that are inserted under the skin at the back of your pet’s neck.
9. Health & Care
What about health? Almost half of the online shoppers (48%) purchased supplements or vitamins for their pets this holiday season. Brands people love include Cosequin, Dasuquin, and Hip & Joint Chews.
10. Training Aids
Getting your pets up to speed may require training aids, such as diapers for dogs! A staggering 629% more online pet owners are buying training aids than last year, including brands such as Care-A-Lot, KAYTEE, and PetSafe.
You can also invest in a professional dog trainer. Dog trainers are a popular purchase for many people. Hiring a dog trainer can be beneficial for both you and your pup.
A professional can help make a world of difference in the way your dog behaves. With an expert’s assistance, you can better communicate with your four-legged friend and prevent behavior issues from sprouting up in the future, among other things.
Also, online shoppers bought training DVDs to help improve their relationship with their furry friends this holiday season.
